KHSD Phased Re-opening Plan

In phase 1, beginning October 28, students with individualized education plans (IEP’s) who have moderate to severe disabilities will return to campuses and satellite sites and student athletes, who have cleared their athletic packet with their athletic director, will begin after-school conditioning.

In phase 2, beginning the week of November 9, special education students with IEP’s who have mild to moderate disabilities, or are English learners, or foster & homeless youth will return to campuses and alternative school sites.

In phase 3, also beginning the week of November 9, special education students with IEP’s who have mild to moderate disabilities or at-risk and high-need students will return to Career Training Centers. If you are unsure if your student falls into one of these categories, please contact your school site.

As long as Kern County remains in the Red Tier, the district will continue to build on the Small Cohort Model to welcome additional students back to school sites. As cohorts are developed, more information will be provided to parents, students, and the community. However, at this time, these identified students are the only students returning in the upcoming weeks. If your student falls into one of these categories and you have additional questions, please contact your school site.

Students, staff, and visitors should screen themselves daily for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to arriving at a District facility. Active screening for symptoms will take place at school sites and individuals on campus will be required to wear masks. Social distancing will be required, lockers will not be used, and drinking fountains will be closed.

All district school sites and locations will be following safety protocols issued by Kern County Public Health, including mandatory face masks and temperature checks.

Please check back for updates as they become available.
