The Kern County Network for Children is excited to announce that we are partnering with Community Connection for Child Care, certified trainers for the Strengthening Families™ Protective Factors Framework, to provide a series of Strengthening Families™ trainings this fiscal year. Strengthening Families™ is a research-informed approach to increase family strengths, enhance child development and reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect. It is based on engaging families, programs and communities in building five protective factors: parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete support in times of need, and social and emotional competence of children. Protective factors are characteristics or strengths of individuals and families, that act to mitigate risks and promote positive well-being and healthy development. They help families to successfully navigate difficult situations. All families need them, and all disciplines/types of service providers can simply weave them into the services that they provide – it’s an approach to use not additional tasks to employ/work to do.
The trainings will be FREE and provided from 10:00 a.m. (registration begins at 9:30) to 12:00 p.m. as follows:
 Wednesday, September 5, 2018 – Introduction to the Strengthening Families™ Protective Factors Framework
 Tuesday, October 30, 2018 – Parental Resilience
 Tuesday, December 11, 2018 – Social Connections
 Tuesday, February 12, 2019 – Children’s Social and Emotional Competence
 Wednesday, May 8, 2019 - Knowledge of Parent and Child Development
 Tuesday, June 11, 2019 – Concrete Support in Times of Need and Wrap Up
Since space is limited, participants who attend each workshop will be allowed to pre-register that day for the next workshop in the series. This is an outstanding opportunity to receive free training on the Strengthening Families™ Protective Factor Framework that will benefit the children and families you work with.
